About Alper
Dr. Alper Yilmaz is a Professor of GeoInformatics with appointments in Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. He leads the nationally recognized Photogrammetric Computer Vision Lab (PCV Lab), where his research focuses on AI-driven computer vision and geospatial intelligence.
The core technology behind AI Vision Solutions originated at The Ohio State University under Dr. Yilmaz’s leadership, translating NASA-funded research into AI systems designed to operate reliably in real-world environments. Early traction for this work was achieved through U.S. Air Force and Army SBIR programs, followed by successful municipal pilot deployments.
Today, AI Vision Solutions powers real-time spatial awareness across industrial sites, smart-city initiatives, defense environments, and other complex operational settings—scaling from single-site implementations to multi-location enterprise deployments. Dr. Yilmaz oversees the evolution of these technologies from research to product, guiding AI vision systems development, product strategy, and real-world deployment at scale.
Dr. Yilmaz is the recipient of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing’s Outstanding Service Award (2022) and The Ohio State University’s Innovator of the Year Award (2020). He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications and is ranked among the top 2% of most-cited researchers worldwide in the fields of Artificial Intelligence & Image Processing and Geological & Geomatics Engineering.
